Internal Condoms

Internal Condoms

Internal condoms (sometimes called female condoms) are a barrier method that helps prevent pregnancy and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They are worn inside the vagina before sex.

Why Use an Internal Condom?

  • Helps prevent pregnancy.
  • Reduces the risk of STIs, including HIV.
  • Can be inserted up to 8 hours before sex.
  • Does not require a prescription.

How to Use

  • Insert the closed end of the condom into the vagina before sex.
  • The outer ring should remain outside the vaginal opening.
  • Guide the penis into the condom during sex.
  • Twist the outer ring and gently remove the condom after sex.
  • Throw the condom away in the trash. Do not flush it.

Important Reminders

  • Use a new internal condom every time you have sex.
  • Do not use an internal condom and an external condom at the same time, as friction can cause them to tear or slip.
  • Check the expiration date and do not use damaged packaging.
  • Internal condoms can be used with both water-based and oil-based lubricants.
