American Red Cross Shelter Fundamentals is a foundational, knowledge-based focused on the procedures, checklists, and principles of operating a disaster shelter.

Core Training Objectives
Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand Sheltering Basics: Explain the core principles of Red Cross sheltering and identify the different types of shelters.
- Manage the Shelter Lifecycle: Describe the specific tasks, roles, and responsibilities involved in opening, organizing, operating, and closing a shelter.
- Master Shelter Procedures: Recall, locate, and use shelter checklists, forms, and tools for daily operations.
- Identify Client Needs: Identify the needs of individuals, including vulnerable populations, and make necessary referrals for assistance.
- Establish Key Areas: Set up and maintain a welcoming reception/registration area, functional food distribution, and comfortable, safe dormitory environments.
- Ensure Communication: Implement information-sharing strategies, including posting signage and managing data through client sign-in forms
