THE PROCESS:
- Please visit our CCW site by clicking here [1]; we do not accept paper applications.
- You must submit your renewal application before your current permit expires. If your permit expires and is not renewed within 90 days
of the expiration date, it will be treated as a new application, requiring you to start the process from the beginning.
- Live Scan Fingerprints: Effective September 1, 2026, all renewal applications will require you to complete and submit new Live Scan fingerprints. Additionally, final approval from the California DOJ regarding your eligibility is necessary before the issuance of your renewed CCW license.
- CCW holders may submit a renewal application up to 30 days before their current license expires.
CCW UPDATE FOR MONO COUNTY RESIDENTS
Assembly Bill 1948 (AB 1948) was recently signed into law and, beginning January 1, 2027, standard California CCW licenses may be issued for up to three years, an increase from the current two-year license term.
If you already have a CCW license, it will remain valid until the expiration date printed on your permit. Existing licenses will not automatically be extended to three years. New and renewal CCW licenses issued on or after January 1, 2027, may be eligible for the new three-year term, provided all statutory requirements are met.
While the license term is changing, the eligibility requirements are not. Background checks, firearms training, and all other requirements under California law will remain in effect.
Note:
The Sheriff’s Office will review the completed application packet and determine whether you are a disqualified person before renewal of the license.
- Prior issuance of a license will not entitle any licensee to any property or liberty right to renewal.
