
- In 2017 Mono County obtained a grant from the California “Board of State and Community Corrections” (BSCC) for $25,000,000 to build a new jail in Bridgeport, California.
- Mono County has worked to complete the required site Due Diligence.
- Mono County has worked with the State Public Works Board and the BSCC to get Project establishment. (Completed 2022 October).
- Mono County hired Lionakis to design the Jail and final site improvements. Lionakis is an expert in Corrections facility design. Lionakis is moving forward with plans and has had their initial page turn with the State Fire Marshall.
- Mono County hired Kitchell to act as the county’s representative in the construction process as a construction manager. They are involved now in monitoring Lionakis plans to verify constructability. They will stay on until the end and perform the commissioning process, which verifies all building operations.
- At this time, we have also been working on schedules. The following are estimates of some Milestones. They are subject to change due to many potential conditions including but not limited to weather, supply chain, and inflation:

2023 Apr 1 Utility relocation begins
2023 July 1 Begin Site Soil Preparation
2023 Oct 3 Mono County Board Item - bid package for building construction
2024 Feb 1 BP Jail beginning of construction
2025 Aug 1 Building completion, commissioning, and transition from existing Jail facility to the new Jail facility.
2025 Dec 1 New Jail fully operational
