Round Fire Investigative Report

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND FIRE PROTECTION

SUMMARY:
On Friday, February 6, 2015 at approximately 2:38 PM , a wildland fire started West of Highway 395 at Sherwin Grade approximately 9 miles West of Bishop in Inyo County, California. The fire, named the ROUND incident, burned approximately 7000 acres in Inyo and Mono Counties. A total of 53 structures were destroyed or damaged by the fire. Investigators determined an electrical arc from a downed power line caused the fire. Strong winds caused the tree to fall which failed the power lines.

Short-Term/Transient Rentals

This webpage has information on Mono County's policies, regulations, and permits for short-term rentals in single-family residential areas.

After lengthy amendment and public outreach process, Chapter 25 amendment was approved and took effect April 13, 2017, allowing Type I rentals where the owner occupies the premises and is present during vacation rentals, subject to obtaining a use permit from the Planning Commission.

A moratorium on Type II rentals, where owners do not occupy the property, was enacted to allow for additional public outreach.

Bi-State Pinyon-Juniper Expansion Forum

Managing Pinyon-Juniper Expansion in Sagebrush Ecosystems: Next Steppe for the Bi-State

The forum was a huge success! Over 150 participants joined us to to discuss the science, effects and impacts, cultural concerns, and other issues of Pinyon and Juniper trees in sagebrush ecosystems. The presentations provided the scientific basis for excellent public discussion. THANK YOU to all who attended and especially the presenters.

The purpose of the forum was to advance the next step of conservation for Bi-State sage-grouse populations, and achieve prioritization and implementation of large-scale projects through recently committed funding and collaboration between federal and state agencies, NGOs and private individuals.
