Incumbent, Vikki Magee Bauer will run for a second term as Mono County Supervisor, District 3.
Four years ago almost to the day I decided to run for public office. At that point in time I had absolutely no idea what that really meant, I just knew that someone had to step forward. And if that meant me then I would take my turn. As it turns out I have actually had a wonderful time serving Mono County. These last few years have turned out to be both the most challenging and most rewarding of times. There is the challenge of learning how policy is formed and how government works. The unbearable challenge of learning how slowly the wheels of government can turn! There is the reward that you get from knowing that you have made a difference. Also the satisfaction I get from knowing that Mono County’s governance principle’s are of the highest standards and that I get to play a part.
It is easy to criticize government and much, much harder to become part of the solution. I feel as though I have helped Mono County to become a better to place to live, play and work. My latest hobby is transportation and as the new chair of the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority and the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System’s, I am hoping to make a positive impact on the funding and operations of regional transit. Working with our State Government has given me a unique opportunity to have Mono County’s concerns heard and addressed. Trying to find solutions’ to June Lake’s economic uncertainty has taught me mountains of information on land use and housing. Each problem is like an onion, the layers just keep going deeper.
I have also learned how difficult decision making can be when you have constituents on both sides of any given issue. That keeping everyone satisfied with an outcome is virtually impossible, and how hard that can be to come to terms with. Yet through it all I have enjoyed myself and enjoyed serving the people of district 3, the people of Mono County, and the residents of the Town of Mammoth Lakes. So it is with those thoughts and goals in mind that I will be filling my nomination papers once more.
