Permits: Fees, Codes, and Services We Provide
(Powerpoint Presentation) |
Welcome to the Building Division home page.
As you
are likely aware, Mono County is made up of a number of communities dispersed
over a 3,200-square mile area. And although each community is unique,
there is a common thread running through them all. That thread is the
high value we place on small-town living and the sense of belonging. The
Building Division is committed to high levels of service for all of Mono
County's nearly 13,000 citizens.
OUR
MISSION
The Building Division strives to provide efficient, customer-friendly
service, with a minimum of bureaucracy. Mono County welcomes development,
both large and small, and aims to assist in any way possible. The development
process can be both challenging and time consuming, so this website has
been designed to help simplify and expedite the process as much as possible.
This online source can assist you with the most common inquiries and will allow us to provide you with the best possible service. The quality
of customer service you receive when you visit our website is of primary
interest to us. We continually evaluate and strive to improve our service
to you, our customer.
WHEN
IS A BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED?
Permits are required when there is new construction to a building as well
as some repair work or alterations to an existing structure. In addition,
when a building is to be remodeled, renovated or enlarged, a permit will
be required. New work consists of any new construction, commercial or
residential, from vacant ground to a completed new structure. Projects
that are considered cosmetic, such as painting, carpeting, adding new
wallpaper, cabinets, and trim work, do not require a permit. If you have
any questions concerning your specific project, please feel free to contact
us.
WHY DO I NEED A PERMIT?
There is often concern about the purpose of and need for building permits. Building permits are mandated by state codes that regulate building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and other facets of construction. The building permit process provides a system to verify that plans comply with codes and the ability to investigate and examine work during construction. This process helps ensure a safe and quality final structure.
